Men's Soccer shutout by visiting Trailblazers
The New England College Men’s Soccer Team’s scoring woes continued as the Pilgrims were shutout by the visiting Mass. College of Liberal Arts Trailblazers 0-1 Tuesday afternoon in Henniker. The win improves MCLA to 2-0-0 on the season, while the loss drops NEC to 0-2-0 overall.
The two teams would battle closely through the opening minutes but the Pilgrims could not keep the Trailblazers off the board long as MCLA’s Joe Deady (Belchertown, Mass.) would find the goal off a free kick from Ben Twomey (Dalton, Mass.) just 19:53 into the game. Neither team would score throughout the remaining 25 minutes of the opening half as MCLA would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Pilgrims would have several opportunities to score in the second half as NEC would hold the 8-3 advantage in corner kicks but it would be MCLA who would hold the edge in shots out shooting the Pilgrims 6-4. MCLA’s keeper Adam Tarsa (Adams, Mass.) would come up huge turning away a header from Peter Koskores (N. Andover, Mass.) with just over three minutes remaining in regulation as the Trailblazes would hold on for the 1-0 victory.
Picking up the shutout win in goal for MCLA was Tarsa who finished with eight saves. In goal for New England College was Pat Harkin (Scituate, R.I.) who finished the afternoon with nine saves.
New England College will be back in action on Saturday, September 6 when they host in-state rival Daniel Webster College at 12:00 p.m. MCLA will host Curry College on Saturday, September 6 at noon.
