New England College baseball evened their overall record to 4-4 losing to Salem State College 4-16 Thursday afternoon in Salem.

Salem State would jump out to an early two run lead in the first inning and tack on five runs in the second and four runs in the fourth going up 12-0 heading into the fifth.  The Pilgrims would continue to struggle to get something going offensively in the top half of the fifth as Salem would add two runs in the bottom half of the inning heading into the seventh up 16-0.

NEC would get on the scoreboard in the top half of the seventh as leadoff batter Jimmy Hoyt (Rochester, N.H.0 would reach on an error and come around and score on a series of wild pitches.  The next two Pilgrim batters would reach base as John Holtman (Mendon, Vt.) would draw a walk and Joe Clark (Newcastle, Maine) would single.  NEC clean-up hitter Dan Pratt (Concord, N.H.) would take advantage of the Pilgrim base runners slugging a home run but four runs was all NEC could muster late as Salem would hold on for the 16-4 victory.
