NEC Captures Second Straight Conference Victory in Women's Basketball
Henniker, NH – The New England College Pilgrims would capture their second straight conference victory beating the visiting Anna Maria College Amcats 80-48 Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Pilgrims to 8-15 overall and 4-7 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC.) The loss drops the Amcats to 1-22 and 0-11 in the TCCC.
The Pilgrims would keep the Amcats off the board the opening five minutes of the game to take the early 12-0 lead. Anna Maria would get their offense going scoring ten points in the next six minutes to trail the Pilgrims 20-10. NEC would then explode on a 12-2 run and hold Anna Maria to just five points in the final five minutes to head into halftime up 42-17.
NEC would continue to dominate the offense in the second half stretching their lead to 39 points midway through the half. Anna Maria would try to battle back as Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) would score 17 of her game-high 28 points in the second but the Pilgrim’s lead would prove too much as NEC would go on to capture the 80-48 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was LaShawnda Wilson (Burlington, Vt.) who finished with a team-high 16 points and eight rebounds. NEC’s Ashley Hutton (Lebanon, N.H.) was the only other Pilgrim in double figures finishing with 17, while Emily DeSack (Exeter, R.I.) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Leading the way for Anna Maria College was Julianna Eagles who finished with a game-high 28 points and a team-high nine rebounds. AMC’s Maggie Sielawa (Webster, Mass.) chipped in 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Amcats.
