NEC Ties Williams in Men's Ice Hockey
Williams College scored two goals in the final ten minutes of the third period as the Ephs would skate to a 3-3 tie with the New England College Pilgrims Friday evening.
The tie is the third on the season for the Pilgrims who move to 10-2-3 overall, while the Ephs move to 5-8-2 on the season.
The Pilgrims would control much of the tempo in the first period of play out shooting the Ephs 25-9. NEC’s Mark Ehl (N. Vancouver, B.C.) would get the Pilgrims on the board netting a power-play goal assisted by Brian Pouliot (Hooksett, N.H.) and Mike Carmody (Falmouth, Maine) at the 15:22 mark in the first giving NEC the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Williams would strike first in the second period as Will Bruce (Nashville, Tenn.) would score his second goal of the year just two minutes in to tie the game at 1-1. The Pilgrims would answer with Brian Pouliot netting two goals in a three minute span to give the Pilgrims the 3-1 at the 16:59 mark in the second period.
Williams would battle back in the third out shooting NEC 19-9. Williams’ Alex Smigelski (Mt. lakes, N.J.) would get the Ephs within a goal scoring his seventh goal of the season at the 10:23 mark. Williams’ Brett Haraguchi (Cupertino, Calif.) would score the game-tying goal putting back a rebound with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation to knot the game at 3-3 and force overtime.
The two teams would battle through a scoreless overtime period as NEC would muster just one shot on net and Williams would have just two shots on net.
In goal for New England College was Ron Baia (West Haven, Conn.) who finished with 38 saves. Having an impressive night in goal for Williams College was Marc Pulde (Lexington, Mass.) who finished with 51 saves.
