Pilgrims Fall to League Leading Endicott
New England College women’s basketball fell to the league-leading Endicott College Gulls 87-67 Wednesday evening in Beverly. With the loss the Pilgrims fall to 8-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
The Pilgrims would open the game on a 5-0 run to take an early lead but the Gulls would answer going on a 9-0 run of their own to build a 14-9 lead. Endicott would continue to control much of the offense in the first half as the Gulls would stretch their lead to 30-18.
NEC would not go down quietly as the Pilgrims would battle their way back into the game cutting the Gull lead to 34-31 with just under four minutes remaining in the half. Endicott would respond outscoring NEC 11-2 in the final two minutes of the half to head into the intermission up 45-33.
The Gulls would continue to dominate the offense in the second half shooting an impressive 52% from the field to build a 24 point lead with 13 minutes remaining in the half. The Pilgrims would try to muster their way back but the Gulls would prove too tough holding on for the 87-67 victory.
Leading the way for the Pilgrims was LaShawnda Wilson (Burlington, Vt.) who finished with a game-high 17 points, eight rebounds and dished out seven assists. NEC’s Ashley Hutton (Lebanon, N.H.) would finish with 11 points and Kendall Wolfson (Lyndeborough, N.H.) would chip in 10 points for the Pilgrims.
NEC will wrap up their regular season Saturday on the road when they travel to take on Wentworth Institute of Technology at 1:00 p.m.
