New England College field hockey kept Thomas College off the board in the second half lifting the Pilgrims to the 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon in Waterville. With the win the Pilgrims even their overall record to 2-2, while the loss drops the Terriers to 1-2 on the season.

The Pilgrims would start the scoring as Khatianna Evans (Wayne, Maine) would net her first goal of the season off a pass from Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.) just 9:50 into the contest.  The Terriers would knot the game at 1-1 late in the half as Ally Kennedy would score an unassisted goal with just under 10 minutes remaining.

The two teams would start the second half tied at 1-1 before NEC’s Samantha Escobar (Rumney, N.H.) would score her team-high fourth goal of the season assisted by Evans just 8:25 into the half.  The Pilgrims would tack on an insurance goal late as Heather DiNapoli (Concord, N.H.) would convert off a corner assisted by Evans with 9:30 remaining in the game.

The two teams would finish the game tied with 14 shots each and the Pilgrims would hold the slight 9-6 advantage in corners.

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) who finished with 10 saves on the afternoon.  Thomas’ Megan Denby stopped six Pilgrim shots on net.
