Softball cruises to conference victories
New England College softball picked up two conference wins sweeping Wentworth Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon in Boston. With the wins the Pilgrims improve to 3-7 overall and 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
In game one the Pilgrims would score in every inning, including four in the bottom of the fourth to cruise to the 10-2 win. Leading the way for NEC was Jessica Chisholm who was 3-for-4 in game one with two doubles and two runs scored. NEC’s Rachel White tripled in two runs and Alexandria Sacco doubled in a run to help the Pilgrims to victory. Picking up the win on the mound for NEC was Bethany Forshaw who picked up her first career win pitching five complete innings allowing just two earned runs on two hits.
In game two Wentworth would jump out to the early 3-0 lead in the top of the first but the Pilgrims would answer with two runs in the first and five runs in the second building a 7-3 lead. Wentworth would battle back scoring two runs in the fifth but NEC would respond with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning on their way to the 13-7 win.
NEC’s Jessica Chisholm picked up where she left off in game one slamming a three-run homerun in game two and finishing with three runs scored. NEC’s Deanna Brayton finished with two triples, two runs scored and two runs batted in, while Amanda Lester singled in a run and scored twice for the Pilgrims. Picking up the win on the mound was Kristen Purdy who pitched four innings allowing three earned runs on three hits.
