Softball falls to conference opponent Salve Regina
New England College softball dropped two conference games yesterday to the Salve Regina Seahawks, falling on game on 1-0 and dropping game two 7-3. With the two losses the Pilgrims fall to 6-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The wins improve the Seahawks to 13-10-1 on the season and 7-2-1 in the conference.
In game one the Seahawks would muster a run in the first inning taking the early 1-0 lead. The Pilgrim offense would threaten with base runners in scoring position in both the second and the third inning but the Seahawk pitching would end each threat with a strikeout keeping NEC off the board.
Picking up the lone Pilgrim hit in game one was Alexandra Sacco (Tewksbury, Mass.) who singled in the first inning. On the mound for NEC was Bethany Forshaw (Waterford, Conn.) who pitched six complete innings allowing just one run on five hits.
In game two the Seahawks would string together four singles and plate four runs in the bottom half of the first to jump ahead 4-0. The Pilgrims would plate a run in both the second and the third innings cutting the lead to 4-2 after three complete. Salve Regina would build their lead to 7-2 in the fifth scoring three runs on four hits. NEC would score an unearned run in the top half of the seventh but Salve Regina would snuff out a play at the play for the final out capturing the 7-3 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Melinda Robbins (Oxford, Mass.) and Alexandra Sacco who each tripled in a run for the Pilgrims.
