Salve Regina forward Kathleen Roche (Boston, Mass.) netted the game-winner scoring a short handed goal with just over seven minutes remaining in the third period lifting the Seahawks past the New England College Pilgrims 3-2 Friday afternoon. With the win Salve Regina improves to 14-7-1 overall, while the loss evens the Pilgrims at 10-10-2 overall.

The Seahawks opened the scoring early as Roche would net her first goal of the game converting on a power-play just 5:57 into the period.  The Pilgrims would knot the game at 1-1 just minutes later as Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) would score her tenth goal of the season assisted by Courtney Kerslake (Sarnia, Ontario) and Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.)  Salve Regina would regain their one goal lead just before the first intermission as Gabrielle Gardner (Farmington Hills, Mich.) would put in a pass from Caitlin Campbell (Hingham, Mass.) with just over three minutes remaining in the period.

The two teams would battle through the majority of the second period scoreless as the Pilgrims would hold the 20-13 edge in shots on net.  NEC’s Jana Schneider (Elbridge, Mass.) would score her first goal of the season with just one second remaining putting in a Sarah Tracey (Aurora, Ontario) rebound, tying the game at 2-2 heading into the third.

Again, the two teams would battle evenly through the opening minutes of the third period before Roche would intercept a Pilgrims pass and score a break-away short handed goal with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation.  The Pilgrims would have several opportunities late, including a two power-play opportunities but the Seahawk defense would hold strong edging the Pilgrims 3-2.

Picking up the win in net for Salve Regina was Rebecca Simmons (Averill Park, N.Y.) who finished with 39 saves. In goal for NEC was Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) who recorded 35 saves.
