Women's lacrosse remains undefeated in conference play
New England College women’s lacrosse would remain undefeated in conference play beating Nichols College 16-11 Saturday afternoon in Dudley. With the win the Pilgrims improves to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the TCCC.
The Pilgrims would take an early lead scoring the opening three goals of the game. Nichols would cut the NEC lead to 3-1 scoring a goal at the 16:09 mark in the first half. The Pilgrims would respond with three more goals, including two by Casey McFarland, to build their lead back up 6-1. Nichols would net a goal with just 45 seconds remaining in the first half to head into intermission down 2-6.
The two teams would battle back-and-forth through the opening seven minutes of the second half as the Pilgrims would lead 10-5 with 23:00 minutes remaining in regulation. Nichols would battle back outscoring NEC 6-2 in the next 17 minutes to cut the Pilgrim lead to just 12-11. NEC would respond late tacking on four goals in the final five minutes and holding the Bison scoreless as they would go on to capture the 16-11 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was Casey McFarland who finished with four goals and two assists. NEC’s Emily Kuchta netted four goals and picked up and assist, while Brandi Vittum and Lauren Bickford each scored two goals for the Pilgrims. Picking up the win in goal was Alexandra DiRico who finished with six saves.
