Women's Soccer shuts down visiting Green Mountain
New England College women’s soccer forward Tamra Comerford (Fremont, N.H.) would net the game-winner just six minutes into the second half lifting the Pilgrims past the visiting Green Mountain College Eagles 1-0 Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 2-3-1 on the season, while the loss drops the Eagles to 0-3-0 overall.
New England would break the scoring drought early in the second as Stevie Hayes (Hopkinton, N.H.) would strike a long pass to Comerford who would place a shot over the Green Mountain defense.
Green Mountain would get an opportunity at the 74:49 mark as Lindsay Tassie (Williamstown, Vt.) would get off a shot on net but Pilgrim keeper Kerry Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y.) would come up with the save.
The Pilgrims would finish the game leading the Eagles in shots on net 8-1 and hold the 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
NEC’s Hughes picked up the shutout win in net for the Pilgrims. In goal for Green Mountain was Karen Davidson (Seymour, Conn.) who finished with eight saves on the afternoon.
New England College will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they travel to take on conference rival Colby-Sawyer at 3:00 p.m. Green Mountain will host Johnson State College on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 3:00 p.m.
