Baseball Coaching Staff

Dave DeCew, Head Coach

 

Dave DeCew enters his sixth season as the head coach for the Pilgrims in 2009.  Last season the Pilgrims finished their season with a record of 9-26.  Over the past five seasons DeCew has worked to rebuild the baseball program and led the Pilgrims to The Commonwealth Coast Conference Team Sportsmanship Award in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

 

DeCew joined NEC from Babson College in Wellesley, MA where he was an assistant coach in both men’s soccer and baseball. In soccer, DeCew helped lead Babson to an NCAA birth in 2001, turning around a team that finished 6-11 before his arrival. He spent the majority of his time as the recruiting coordinator during his four years, but also specialized in training goalkeepers and organizing the defense.

 

DeCew attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME where he played both varsity soccer and baseball. In soccer DeCew was a NSCAA 1st team All-American and a NESCAC First Team member. In baseball DeCew was NESCAC player of the Year, ECAC All New-England and received the NCAA Batting Crown.

 

DeCew also serves at the head soccer coach at New England College.

 

Sean Benoit, Assistant Coach

 

Sean Benoit enters his first season as assistant coach for New England College.  Benoit graduated from New England College last spring with a degree in Criminal Justice.   Sean spent two years at nearby Northern Essex Community College where he played varsity baseball before transferring to NEC to receive his four year degree.  Sean spent each of the last two seasons as an integral part of the NEC baseball team as a utility infielder and as a top starting pitcher. 

 

 

Jeff Miller, Assistant Coach

 

Jeff Miller is entering his first season as assistant baseball coach at New England College Last season Miller served as an assistant at TCCC opponent Colby-Sawyer College.  Jeff is also the head baseball coach at nearby John Stark Regional High School, and his son Scott is the starting shortstop for the NEC baseball team.  Jeff has extensive experience working camps and clinics as well as coaching baseball at the college level.  Jeff will work in all areas of coaching for the team, primarily developing the pitching staff.
