Susan M. Murray, Head Coach
Susan M.
Murray has molded a strong program that allows young women a chance to develop
athletically, personally, and professionally at New England College.
From a 3-8-2 start in 1992 to 2006’s record-setting 20-3, Murray has created a program that is recognized
as a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) and regional power.
Since the first TCCC Championship series in 1997, Murray’s teams have appeared in ten championship games and have captured nine titles. During this ten-year stretch, the program has compiled a record of 156-59 for an impressive .750 winning percentage. Beginning in 1999, NEC has been selected to participate in post-season tournaments for nine consecutive seasons including seven trips to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007), and a bid for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament in 2001. The program has been ranked in the top twenty nationally and is consistently ranked in the top five in the region.
Coach Murray has a reputation for helping student-athletes develop to their full potential. Murray has produced six National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-Americans and fifteen New England Regional All-Americans. TCCC honors include dozens of all-conference players, four TCCC Players of the Year, five TCCC Rookies of the Year, and five TCCC Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Murray has been selected TCCC Coach of the Year in 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2006; in 2006, she received the honor of NFHCA Regional Coach of the Year, awarded to just six coaches in the nation.
The program epitomizes the NCAA Division III philosophy of true student-athletes. More than two dozen NEC student-athletes have been selected for the NFHCA National Academic Squad during Murray’s tenure, including several member of the TCCC Academic Squad.
