Biography:
Philosophy of Teaching:
Students learn best through experience and hands-on applications of principles and ideas. Hence, I focus on designing lectures, experiments, individual and group exercises, etc. with the goal of engaging students in addressing real world issues and problems that will impact them throughout their lives.
Special areas of expertise or research interests:
Land planning, site development, designing sustainable and compact communities, exploring alternatives to fossil fuel dependence; private property rights
Teaching background:
I started teaching at New England College in the fall, 1971 after four years of full-time professional work in the city and regional planning fields. As a Registered Civil Engineer for over four decades, I engaged in numerous land development projects throughout New England, and attended and presented papers at professional conferences throughout the United States and abroad. These experiences have enabled me to incorporate real-world issues into the classroom setting throughout my teaching career. Additionally, I hosted student trips to England and Nicaragua to engage in community service learning activities.
