New England College recommends that students complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. The FAFSA form is required to apply for federal financial assistance, primarily through the Federal Stafford Loan Program.
Students first need to request a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the U.S. Department of Education at www.pin.ed.gov before completing the FAFSA application. This PIN number will be your electronic signature, so the entire form can be completed on-line. For those of you who have not applied for a PIN number, the application can still be completed on-line however you will be able to print out a signature page.
The PIN number will allow students to do the following:
- Electronically sign the FAFSA and Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN)
- Make corrections to and view processed FAFSA application information
- View personal loan history and other data
After obtaining a PIN. Students may complete the FAFSA electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The school code for New England College is 002579. Students must file the FAFSA every year in order to receive any form of financial assistance.
Once you have completed the FAFSA, you must also complete the
Graduate Financial Assistance Application which you can download here:

A Federal Stafford Loan is a low interest, federal education loan. The interest rate on new Federal Stafford Loans is fixed at 6.8%. Repayment begins six months after the student graduates, enrolls for less than half time, or leaves school.
Graduate students may borrow up to their cost of attendance, capped at an academic year maximum $20,500. If your full academic year cost of attendance exceeds $20,500, you will have eligibility to borrow other types of federal or private loan funds up to your remaining attendance costs.
