Congratulations to Megan Lyman: NEC Student Named Miss New Hampshire 2012
Megan Lyman set her sights on the Miss New Hampshire title some time ago, and for the past two years she has placed first runner up in the competition. But at Saturday night’s contest for Miss New Hampshire 2012, Megan’s perseverance paid off and she took the title and the crown in front of a sold-out audience at the Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy in Derry.
The title puts Megan in the running for the 2013 Miss America contest to be held in Las Vegas in January. If she is successful, she will be the first person from New Hampshire to earn the title.
All contestants in the Miss New Hampshire program participate in community service and Megan has demonstrated her commitment through a variety of projects including some at New England College. As a member of CivicCorps she was actively involved in College Convention 2012 and introduced program presenters, answered questions for participants, checked in members of the international media, and shared her observations with reporters. She joined the team from NEC that traveled to Nicaragua in January to work with students in the Orphanage Outreach program and is already considering a similar program in the Dominican Republic next year.
Megan is a junior at New England College and is pursuing a double major in elementary and special education.
