NEC Men's Lacrosse Players to Play in FIL World Championship

Jul 07, 2010

The New England College men's lacrosse team will have two players representing their countries in the upcoming 2010 Federation of International lacrosse (FIL) World Lacrosse Championship in Manchester, England. Toby Delamore (Auckland, New Zealand) and Brian Gillis (N. Vancouver, British Columbia) have been selected to represent their respective teams after exhausting tryouts conducted this past fall and winter seasons.

Brian Gillis will be playing for the Irish National Team, as his grandparents hail from Ireland and he is a second generation citizen of Canada. Brian will be the youngest player on the Irish National team that is favored to win their division and may see some competition against either Team USA or Team Canada. Brian recently finished his freshmen campaign at NEC tallying 15 goals and three assists and was named NEC's departmental Male Rookie of the Year.

Toby Delamore is a native of New Zealand and recently completed his second year at New England College. Toby recorded his first collegiate goal in 2009, which was the first ever in the NCAA by a native New Zealander. Toby has three goals and three assists thus far in his career and was named Academic All-Conference in 2010 by The Commonwealth Coast Conference.

The 2010 FIL World Lacrosse Championships will be held at the Manchester University Sports grounds, The Firs, from July 15 - 24, 2010. All divisions and stages of the Championships will take place at the venue. This is going to be the biggest World Championships to date with 30 nations competing for the title.
