NEC Women’s Ice Hockey Skates Visiting Castleton State College to a Tie
HENNIKER, N.H.—New England College women’s ice hockey skated visiting ECAC East foe Castleton State College to a 2-2 tie Tuesday evening.
With the win the tie the Pilgrims improve to 5-4-5 overall and 2-3-3 in ECAC East play. The Spartans move to 7-5-2 overall and 4-2-2 in conference action.
Castleton would start the scoring midway through the opening period as Nicoline Jensen (Hellerup, Denmark) would rebound in a shot by Danielle Roberts (St. Albans, Vt.) recording a Spartan power-play goal at the 9:54 mark.
NEC would knot the game at 1-1 just minutes later as Morgan Braniff (Tustin, Calif.) would pick up a loose puck and beat a Spartan defender netting her third goal of the season with just under seven minutes remaining in the opening period.
NEC would grab their first lead of the evening midway through the second period as Madyson Moore (Dubuque, Iowa) would redirect in a wide shot off the stick of Alyssa Hoot (Waterville, Ohio) converting on a Pilgrim power-play.
Castleton would grab the equalizer 5:59 into the third period as Molly Howard (Shelburne, Vt.) would fire a shot over the left shoulder of NEC keeper Lauren Hopps (Green Bay, Wisc.) netting the second Spartan power-play goal of the game.
The two teams would battle through the remainder of the regulation and the overtime period scoreless as the Pilgrims would finish with the slight 38-33 advantage in shots on net.
Hopps finished the evening with 31 saves in net for the Pilgrims. In goal for Castleton was Paula Stephens (Seattle, Wash.) who recorded an impressive 38 saves in net.
NEC returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 19 when they travel to take on ECAC East opponent College of Holy Cross. Castleton will hit the ice on Friday, January 18 when travel to take on College of Holy Cross.
