NEC’s Master of Fine Arts Program in Poetry is ranked in the Top 20.
The New England College Master of Fine Arts Program in Poetry has been ranked tenth in selectivity and twentieth overall in the 2012 rankings of low residency MFA writing programs. Poets and Writers magazine publishes a yearly list of the fifty top low residency MFA programs based on a survey of popularity and the “objective analyses of selectivity and post-graduate placement rank.”
The NEC MFA poetry program began in 2002 and this past summer celebrated its twentieth residency. It has become a place where tradition meets innovation, with a newly expanded course list offering students the opportunity to study new media poetry and poetics, performance, translation, forms, and critical writing. Nearly one hundred and fifty students have graduated with NEC MFA degrees in poetry, and its core and visiting faculty through the years have included the celebrated poets Maxine Kumin, Galway Kinnell, Lynn Emanuel, D. A. Powell, Ilya Kaminsky, Brian Henry, Anne Waldman, Li-Young Li, Marilyn Nelson, Paula McLain, James Harms, and Carol Frost.
