Latest in Teaching Technology Comes to NEC Over the past few months, faculty at New England College have been exploring the many ways to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their teaching. Four classrooms in the Center for Educational Innovation and several classrooms in Spaulding Hall have been fitted with ActivBoard technology, an interactive instructional tool allowing the integration of text, images, web, video, and audio content.

This 21st century technology not only enhances the educational experience of our students but will be used to train education majors in ways to apply this technology in their future classroom settings. The ActivBoard initiative is part of the College’s Preparing Future Educators of America program and is the result of a generous bequest from Dr. William L. Kanenson, whose son, Ross, graduated from the elementary education program at NEC in 1990. “We are so grateful for this wonderful gift,” said Dr. Debra Nitschke-Shaw, Professor of Education and Director of Teacher Certification. “Through this technology we have the opportunity to impact the quality of teaching for current and future generations of students.” The ActivBoard technology in Spaulding Hall was made possible by funding from the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation. Faculty at the College and some K-12 educators received training in ActivBoard technology this spring and participants in several of the College’s K-12 partnerships along with four New England College faculty members were trained to be trainers of other K-12 educators and College faculty earlier this summer.
