NEC Alumnus Honored for Design-Build Projects
John Samenfeld, alumnus of the Class of 1970 and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, has been honored by the Associated Builders and Contractors of New Hampshire and Vermont, for two outstanding design-build projects.
Samenfeld’s company, Pro Con, Inc., received the awards at the organization’s recent Excellence in Construction Awards ceremony, a competitive juried program that recognizes the region’s finest construction projects and the important role of architects and contractors in the design-build process.
The
“Award of Excellence” was given to Pro Con’s Alpha Flying Aviation
Center design-build project. The project included a 40,000 square foot
aviation hangar, 44,000 square foot aviation support facility, and
corporate office building and sales area at the Pease International
Airport in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The state-of-the-art hangar
features radiant floor heating and hangar doors that
measure
130’ by 28’. The corporate office building includes a 30-foot tinted
glass wall and marble floors. The unique design of the aviation center
incorporates an operational aircraft facility with museum quality
offices, reception and sales areas.
The Merit Award was given to Pro Con’s eight-story Capital Commons
project
located in Concord, New Hampshire. This mixed-use development combines
office, retail, and entertainment facilities in the heart of the
state’s capital. The project features street level retail space and
high-end office space on the upper floors. The brick and stone façade
is complemented with a curved curtain wall that opens to a public
plaza. Attached to the commons is a five-level parking garage.
