NEC Announces a $1M Challenge Match

The Jon Gould ’75 Legacy Challenge – Presented by Lex Scourby ’75 and Jay Gould ’75.

New England College is thrilled to announce an exciting challenge for all alumni, parents, and friends! Two of our esteemed alumni have stepped-up and pledged a combined $1M towards the construction of The Rosamond Page Putnam Center for the Performing Arts.

Jay Gould ’75 has made his pledge in the amount of $500K, in memory of his twin brother Jon Gould ’75, who had a very successful communications career before his passing in 1986. Lex Scourby ’75 matched Jay’s gift to help complete the funding for this important project. Jon’s lifelong legacy of commitment to the arts will be showcased as the lobby of The Rosamond Page Putnam Center for the Performing Arts will be named in his honor.

Jon Gould graduated from New England College in 1975. While at NEC Jon concentrated both on business and the arts. He spent a summer at Harvard in the highly selective Radcliffe Publishing Program and later Jon accepted a position in the advertising department at Rolling Stone. In 1978, Jon moved to Los Angeles where he was Vice President for Corporate Communications at Paramount Pictures.

When the match is completed, NEC will have raised $7.5 million for The Rosamond Page Putnam Center for the Performing Arts – and this will be the most money raised for a single building project in the history of the College!

This world-class, expertly designed performing arts facility will include more than 21,000 square feet including a 350 seat thrust-stage theater, lobby, box office, control room, dressing rooms, and a mezzanine encompassing two floors.

The building’s design will accommodate a variety of programming such as dramatic productions, dance and musical performances, political forums and debates, professional lectures, and summer arts programs.

If you would like to contribute to this project and impact the future of NEC, please contact Vice President for Advancement, Marie Muhvic, at 603.428.2296 or

Remember your gift will be doubled by the match, doubling your impact!
