My work uses painting as an exploratory tool to delve into the internalized worlds or dimensions. These “other dimensions” are not readily tangible, but we perceive them all the time. Things such as intuition, clairvoyance, and prophecy key us into the higher dimensions of life and make life more rich, complex, and complete. The space outside of the physical realm is what I try to paint. I use the act of painting to draw my body and mind into the intense activity leaving my subconscious free to transcend to a heightened awareness of life.

My paintings speak of the slippages that occur due to interruptions to our world by metaphysical reality or dimensions. The figures speak about the current age that we live in, a world where representation and reality can be interchanged and physicality can be fleeting. History and fantasy, also, can be interchangeable and used to reinvent our identities. I am interested, in particular, how history and mythology can be re-imagined to create alternate dimensions and multiple storylines that may not be in history books. I hope that I and others can use as emblems to more clearly comprehend the world around us more fully.

Eileen Murphy has spent her life along the Hudson River and has lived in Brooklyn, New York, for the last 15 years. Her current paintings are based on the landscape of Columbia County, New York, where she spends part of her time. While she uses some techniques of the Old Masters, Eileen’s paintings respond to the modern environment and current moment in contemporary art. Her work is intensely detailed and requires a lot of time and technical knowledge. She works from dark to light, and builds images using classical methods as well as photographs.

A lot of her inspiration comes from Upstate New York where she grew up and spends a lot of her time. Eileen has shown widely in New York City and the metropolitan area and was awarded residencies to the Vermont Studio Center in 2004 and to Yaddo in 2013 and 2017. She received the Individual Artist Award from the Santo Foundation in 2017; in that same year, she was invited by the U.S. Department of State to participate in the Art in the Embassies program. Her work is currently on view at the American Embassy in Algiers, Algeria, and in 2018, Eileen was invited to that city to give a workshop and a series of lectures. She is currently represented by Garvey|Simon in New York City and by Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, New York.

Born in Jerusalem, Israel, Yoav Horesh’s photographs have been concerned with the intersection of memory, history, conflict, ethnicity and multiculturalism. Using large- and medium-format cameras, his work, research, and projects have taken him to the American Southwest, Germany, Laos, Israel, the Gaza Strip, Bolivia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Cambodia, and more—places where history still shapes and influences current events and daily life.

Horesh has exhibited his photographs in museums and galleries internationally, including at The Israel Museum, The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Gallery Kayafas, and Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art in Saint Petersburg, Russia. His second monograph “Aftermath” was published by SPQR Editions in 2016 and followed with exhibitions in Israel and the United States. His photographs have been featured by Amnesty International and publications including The Atlantic, The Boston Globe, and The Wall Street Journal. Horesh’s work is in the permanent collections of The Addison Gallery for American Art, The Museum of New Art, Fitchburg Art Museum, and the Ashdod Museum of Art.

He has received awards, commissions, and grants, including the Agnes Martin Award, Projektraum-Bahnhof25 Residency Award, HAWAPI, and the Mortimer Frank Grant.

Since 2005, Horesh has taught in universities and colleges in the United States, Hong Kong, and Israel.
